I love the description of a retirement community smelling like earth and wisdom (I'll skip the decay haha). My grandpa has recently moved into a home and this is such a beautiful way to think about the lives that have lived and learned and are now all collected together.

I used to visit retirement homes a lot when I was a kid. My grandma would visit friends or I would go with my mom. I loved listening the stories they shared. It made my life, which felt daunting at the time, feel smaller; like it held space for potential. I never viewed them as places people go to be forgotten as they creep towards the grave. It always seemed like a place of ease, safety and solitude. I know that sometimes I does become the more negative experience for some. My grandmother wanted to die in her home and ended up in a nursing home due to her health. It wasn’t exactly what she envisioned, but she was surrounded by love in the end. I think sometimes we see aging as a cruel twist of fate. Personally, I look forward to earning the wisdom that comes with such a long life 🖤

Lovely. I am curious what Berty's voice sounds like. Can you describe how you hear it. This seems a good start to an epic journey, as well as revealing Honey's intent and true nature. I am looking forward to Chapter 8.

Thank you! I will definitely add more descriptors when I go over chapter 8! Berty sounds like my dad (technically my step-dad) lol so think heavy smoker, black coffee drinker, motorcycle riding guy who has a favorite stool at the local pub. That’s the vibe I get from him when I write him. I can hear my dad’s voice, especially in the next chapter. Berty is not just a sweet old gnome, he holds quite a few secrets.
